Shingada Flour Thalipeeth (Singoda/Waterchestnut Flour Pancake)

Happy Navratri!! This thalipeeth is usually made for fasting. The Shingada or waterchestnut flour makes it a more healthier alternative to sabudana (sago). Sometimes I make it at snack time for my kids if they are really hungry and need some variety. It is very quick and easy recipe, not to say tasty as well.

Ingredients: Singada/Singoda flour (Water chestnut flour) - 1 cup, Roasted peanut powder - 1/4 cup, jeera/cumin seeds - 1 tsp, red/chilli powder - 1 tsp or chopped green chillies - 2-3, salt to taste, chopped cilantro - 1 tbsp, oil - 1 tsp + 2/3 tsp for cooking, Water to mix dough.

Method: Take flour, peanut powder, jeera/cumin seeds, red chilli powder/chopped green chillies, cilantro, salt and little oil in a bowl and mix the dough.
Grease a pan/tava with oil and flatten the dough to make a thalipeeth/pancake. Cover and cook for 3-4 mins on medium high heat and turn over and cook the other side for 3-4 mins. When both sides are cooked, serve it hot with peanut chutney (see sabudana vada with chutney) or yoghurt.

Enjoy and till my next post, take care everyone!!

Last week, this post was accidentally published while I was composing it. My very good friend Priya asked me about it and was keen to know the recipe, so I am publishing it in this post because she is sharing her very special first award with me :))

Sabudana Khichadi is typically made for a fast/upvaas. To make this khichadi, Soak 1 cup sabudana in water for at least 5-6 hours or overnight. It should be fluffy and not soggy when done. Heat 1 tbsp ghee/oil in a pan. Add 1 tsp jeera, 2-3 green chillies, and 1 boiled and cubed potato. Saute for 2-3 mins. Add 1/2 cup ground peanut powder to the soaked sabudana and add this mixture to the pan. Stir for 8-10 mins on medium heat. Take care it does not stick to the bottom of the pan. Add 1 tsp sugar and salt to taste. Stir for 2-3 mins. Add 2-3 tsp of lemon juice, garnish with cilantro and serve hot.

I was really busy for the last couple of days and might be for a few days more so I may not be able to post recipes frequently. Things should hopefully get to normal by next week....... maybe earlier :)) Ciao......

Sabudana Vada with Chutney

I still remember that we all used to look forward to Ekadashi, Maha Shivratri, Chaturthi etc because that's when Mom made our all time favorite treat...... Sabudana Vada!!! We could hardly wait for the golden hot steaming vadas to be on our plate where they were instantly devoured with chutney.... and now many years later, my kiddos do the same :))
Ingredients: Sago (sabudana) - 2 cups, Potatoes- boiled and mashed - 4 medium size, Roasted and coarsely ground peanuts (Danyacha kut) -1 cup, Green chillies - finely chopped - 4-5, Finely chopped Cilantro - abt 2-3 tablespoons, Lemon juice -1 tbsp, Salt to taste and Oil to deep fry.
Method:  Soak the sabudana, in enough water to cover it for about 4-5 hours or overnight. Drain off excess water, if any. Mix together sabudana, mashed potatoes, coarsely ground peanuts, chopped green chillies, coriander leaves, lemon juice and salt. Mix thoroughly. Divide into lemon sized balls, flatten between palms of your hands. Heat oil in a kadai and deep fry vadas in hot oil till golden brown. Serve hot with peanut/yoghurt chutney.
Peanut/Yoghurt Chutney: To make this chutney, grind together 2-3 tbsp roasted peanuts, Salt to taste, 2 tbsp cilantro, 3-4 Green chillies and 1 cup Yoghurt!!!

I am entering this recipe for : Shama's Event: ' FAMILY'S FAVOURITE FOOD'
